"South African Olympic athlete Oscar Pistorius has been sentenced to six years in prison for the murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in 2013.
The verdict comes after his initial five-year conviction for manslaughter was changed to murder last December on appeal.
He was taken immediately to jail. Both the prosecution and defence can appeal."

Had he been black I bet it would have been a different sentence Another example of how money can buy justice

I just heard that the minimum sentence is seven years so he got less than that! He was found guilty...the sentence laid down should apply. You bet there'll be an appeal!
During the original trial, my soft hearted friends believed him innocent. Me, never.

How true Gus. Just read there is outrage in SA as two black men have been sentenced today to 15 years for armed robbery!

I don't think innocence comes into it. Proving someone intended murder, through a closed door,is hard. Murder is defined in law as the intent to kill or seriously injure another being. I have no doubt he did but proving it ,under these circumstances is tricky.

But he has already been convicted of murder The judge has deviated from the sentencing guidelines which may lead to an appeal

I felt sick when I heard the verdict. Pistorius is from a wealthy family and that counts for a lot. He is a nasty piece of work. I believe what Reeva's mother said, that Reeva had been offered a series in the US and Pistorius didn't want her to go. He was spoilt as a child and used to getting his own way.
