When I was wee, I used to collect stamps! As I lived in Hong Kong I have some interesting ones from China, Taiwan and other Asian countries. I had completely forgotten about them till last year when I was helping Mum empty her loft. Looking at them again I remembered the care and attention I took placing each one into the seam of my albums. I was very excited to see a triangular one from Mongolia that I'd found particularly fascinating. I doubt any of them are worth anything, but now with the Internet I could (when I have time) dig the stamps out and spend a happy few hours confirming the fact.

My son Jamie started collecting stamps, when little. 'Uncle' Desmond , a well known botanist, went all over the world and saved all the stamps he could. Jamie has quite a collection but I don't suppose they are worth much either.
I think it's a dying hobby.

I know my brother used to collect UK first day covers, but the RM nowadays puts out so many novelty jobs that its no longer worthwhile.
Bryan Forbes used to deal in stamps at his bookshop - I bought a penny black for my brother once.

We're currently all packed up for an impending house move, but whilst packing I discovered my old stamp album from years back and decided to resurrect it. I don't suppose there's anything valuable there, but I like to look at the stamps now and then, and think about the country where they're from.
Some stamps in particular remind me of letters I received from special people in my life; I don't have the letters any more but for some reason I kept the stamps from the letters

I know the feeling. My youngest son and I love flags. We both know most of the world ones. It started when he was at school and I bought him a book of flags. He got me to test him on them and gradually we both picked up on them.
No cash value but hours of pleasure.........

When I was at school in Southall, the kids used to come up to you and say, Do you collect stamps? If you said yes they stamped on your foot.

As a wee lad I had an aunt who smoked (I think) Kensitas cigarettes. She gave me an album which was full of little silk flags which came free inside the packs. Some were I recall very beautiful. I think they are somewhere in the dark recesses of my loft (I NEVER throw anything away!) so in some idle moment I will dig them out. Could be inteesting as the world has changed a lot since then.

I used to collect cigarette cards at school. Are they worth big money now?
