Don't believe everything you read - even if it is the Scotsman!
There is a campaign going on - press and BBC which is quite distasteful. All the Scots want is a bit of honesty on both sides. I would have no hesitation in voting 'yes' and that is from the head as well as the heart. I will be back in Scotland ASAP after the 'yes' vote wins but I won't go back if the ruling party is Westminster. Scotland has been treated abysmally by Westminster (all shades) for far too long. A proud nation being ruled by arrogant t******.

That surprises me Star.
I am 'governed' by Westminster but the vast majority of my life is ruled by local politicians. Apart from a few very minor differences the law in Scotland is pretty well in line with the law in England. Contract law is one where we in England could actually learn from Scotland.
I don't think I would want to live in a loose alliance of self governing mini states. If Scotland breaks away what about other areas such as Cornwall, or Yorkshire? Both areas have some pretty strong views on identity.

As a exiled Scot I will not get to vote (but then I don't get to vote on anything) I am hopeful and confident that the would be King Salmond will never get his way, as last nights vote and the polls clearly show.
I'd be interested to know how you see seperatism as a benefit Star.

The benefits as I see them! Scotland has been disregarded by Westminster for many a year - I believe this can be seen in the number of Tory MPs there are in Scotland at the moment! To be able to decide what is best for your country has to be a good thing surely. If you look at the economics it strikes me that the loser if Scotland votes 'Yes' is England. Why would a Westminster government, a Londoncentric government, know what the needs of Scotland actually are? They don't! I believe the problem at the moment seems to be a lack of clarity by both sides. Scaremongering is never the answer. Many posters on other sites seem to be under the impression that Scotland would forever have an SNP government - total rot. Vote for Independence and at the next election you can decide who you want to govern. Quite honestly I would continue down the SNP route as they have done a damned good job so far. Look at the trade to and from Scotland, look at how Europe views Scotland (here in France they regard Scotland as an ally - England not so!)Look at where the exports go and how much they are worth. Listen to how trade could be developed without the constraints of Westminster. Self government is the only way forward. I wish I had a vote - moving back when they are independent that's for sure! The rubbish in the media at the moment especially in relation to facts and figures disgusts me. Lies, damned lies and statistics!Don't believe a word you hear at the moment especially with regards to unemployment - the figures have been well and truly massaged make no mistake. As to the ordinary working family being better off - total codswallop! The people of Scotland will do the right thing for them - they are not daft.

Something I've often wondered is whether, if Scotland becomes independent, it will be a kingdom with its own king or queen; and if so, who would this be? If not a kingdom would Scotland then become a republic?

Something I've often wondered is whether, if Scotland becomes independent, it will be a kingdom with its own king or queen; and if so, who would this be? If not a kingdom would Scotland then become a republic? Mr. Salmond has already stated that on independence Scotland will "keep the Queen." He has also stated that Scotland will keep the £ Sterling, so an independent Scotland will have no control over its currency. It seems that the closer we get to the referendum, the more intractable problems emerge.

I simply don't get it with regard to 'independence' for Scotland. I have little doubt that there is mutual benefit to be gained by us all staying as one.
Yes Scotland is different from SE England, but so are many other regions - Go to some parts of Wales or the North of England and you might as well be in a foreign country with a different way of life and culture.
It strikes me that Salmond has homed in on a few things and is using them to promote the cause. His cause more likely as he has the air of self importance which I liken to the Orang Utan Syndrome - The higher you climb your less attractive features become all the more obvious!

As Mr Salmond is in talks with Mr Carney as we speak I believe things could become clearer very soon! They are both intelligent boys so let's hope the meeting is fruitful.
I believe Scotland should go it alone as far as currency is concerned - a good clean break is what is the best solution IMHO.
If all the facts (truth please) were to be put before the Scottish public in realtion to employment, finance, exports, imports and future ma&nufacturing without the constraints of Westminster. I hope you all know that manufacturing in the UK is more or less dictated by the government with lots of sweeteners for certain areas (not Scotland it would seem!) When the majority of jobs are in London and the South East don't we need to ask why? House prices alone should give you a clue that there must be some sort of incentive offered! Get real folks - Scotland will be fine on its own, in charge of its own destiny, able to treat the people of Scotland better than some areas of the UK§
England needs Scotland more than Scotland needs England - and that is a fact!

The man without a plan, surely it's getting embarrassing now? I don't often relish being English living in Scotland but I am enjoying this whole fiasco.
"If Scotland becomes Independent we shall up sticks and be moving down south to England and leave them all to it" words of MrN who is a proud Scot to his core.

Having a bad couple of days so this is the best I can do for now. I will improve! Speed Bonnie Vote like a bird on the wing Give me my pie in the sky Grant to this lad who wants to be king All the Scots voters say aye Loud the voice growls, loud the crowds roar Outward the chest is still thrust But most, nay not all, will just show him the door Cos Alex is no-one to trust
