Yet again honours are given to pop singers and football players , who have achieved nothing but getting rich. BAH!

The Beatles got theirs for their contribution to foreign exports, so I suppose there'll be a bit of that.
But both footballers and pop stars provide a lot of enjoyment to a lot of people (even if that doesn't really include me); though I think Kenny Dalgleish got his for the things he did once he had stopped playing
They should really have done a posthumous one for Mark E Smith, who really did make a massive contribution to the cultural life of the country, even though he wasn't especially well-known.
(Actually, I've not found any pop stars there yet.)

Two from our former county got honours - one is the children's officer the other for some job she was doing in education. I came across both of them when I was a headteacher. I can honestly say I was disgusted at them getting honours. Neither of them were even competent in their well paid jobs so why the honours? The whole system is just a disgrace. I certainly admire those who turn them down!

The whole thing is a joke. After the Northern Rail fiasco,Mark Cain(head of Northern Rail) is to get a CBO. You couldn't make it up!

Honours should only be awarded to those who make a contribution to society or their community, not to those who have been richly rewarded because of their work
