So expansion at Heathrow looks set to be pushed through despite it being the worst choice for Londoners.
D'you know, I do think that the gov. just sits things out for a suitable period (on any project) to feign consideration of other options then goes ahead anyway. A friend of mine since schooldays has recently retired as a translator at Gatwick and believes it should've been chosen; describing the airport as empty for long periods of the day with few flights. It's been under capacity for years since the sale by BAA...it sorely needs the investment too. This from someone who lives four miles from the airport and would hardly welcome the increased disturbance.
And as for HS2, who on this planet wants to get to Birmingham 20 minutes faster?
Even the Hinckley Point 'pause' was just for show, I think..

They are all too aware of the premier truth. The public has a short memory. Would you vote for a politician who had just cheated you ,grossly on his/her expenses - CERTAINLY NOT! Give it six months and the answer is yes.

Boris Johnson is against expansion at Heathrow That's enough for me to support it Heathrow/Gatwick - have used the so called Gatwick Express to get to London, it took forever. Heathrow is quicker and if you're Hoo Flung Won it would be a consideration for your travel HS2 was phase 1 of George Osborne's Northern Power House

Surely you wouldn't be against an idea because of dislike of someone who supported it?
Boris Island, as an idea, had its merits. But it was just too expensive... plus more capacity is needed now. We couldn't wait 20 years.
I don't like George Osborne, but he's not the reason I'm opposed to HS2!

I recall one of the biggest worries was birdstrike. Fog apart...at least aircraft wouldn't be endlessly circling round central London to come in. Anyway, perhaps they would've installed giant fans to blow it away 😁
My choice would still have been Gatwick...

"Giant fans", there are enough wind bag politicians and so called celebs that could do that job - make 'em useful for a change
