Hild, you make some good points - I always like to read your views...you should cease dropping in and become a regular! Vaccinate badgers? Not much good unless you do every single one. I 'spose you could give each one a certificate... 😁 It has been trialled recently and is I think the preferred option in parts of Wales. , but it is just not possible to trap and vaccinate every one. You could vaccinate the cattle, but then we as UK Ltd lose our bTB free status which would enormous consequences for trading livestock and many other related items. A trial was done in the mid 70's in an area of Gloucestershire where all badgers were culled. The ministry said all but I live there and know of one badger sett that was untouched. So if there was one, it is reasonable to expect there would be others. They were in the main gassed. The area had hard boundaries, the M4 to the south, M5 to the East and the river Severn and the Sharpness canal to the west and north. I have been trying to find data on what was learned from that but so far no luck on that front.

The animal rights fighters always say 'there is no evidence to show that culling works' Thanks Jon...now we know why!

As I have posted previously, I am a supporter of animal welfare but I do not support animal right activists/ They seem to me to be simply supporters of a cause and will go to any lengths to support their fanaticism. Remember them digging up the remains of an elderly woman from her grave, think she had some connection to a medical research centre

Going back to badgers, we are protecting these critters (why?) when our toad and hedgehog populations are in steep decline now, on account of being eaten by them...why isn't anyone up in arms about this?
