It is kind of reassuring when someone who seems on TV to be an absolute cad and a bounder turns out to be just that - well, worse, really - in real life. I never liked Paula Yates, but golly, I felt for her when that came out. I used to quite like old Jess, at his organ.

Not quite the jovial character portrayed as in real life. I stayed in the same hotel as him and some of his entourage once. An experience never to be repeated. 'Don't you know who he is?' Yes he is a vile rude foul mouthed arrogant little shit.

Yes he is a vile rude foul mouthed arrogant little shit. I expect that could be said of a lot of them. I remember Michael Barrymore doing his "come back" show in Blackpool where the stage door is right neat to the theatre entrance where we saw a crowd gathering as we left. So we hung around and eventually he came out, shook hands with everybody and was photographed with everyone who had a camera especially anybody who was disabled A more charming man you couldn't wish to meet, and look what happened to him

Peter Brough with his dummy Archie Andrews. Very popular on the radio, especially with children but unsuccessful on TV because you could see his lips moving. I had an Archie doll when I was a chid, his mouth moved and head turned by a control at the back but I could never perfect the art of throwing my voice and keeping my lips still

A while ago I listened to a drama about Peter Brough and Archie on Radio 4. Unfortunately it's not available now but sometimes they pop up on Radio 4 Extra. Worth looking out for. www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00vp0zm

Only the BBC would put a ventriloquist on radio! True, but in those days there was no widely available TV. It was all on the radio, or the pictures I remember on Saturday nights sitting in silence when the football results came on at 5pm, and father checked his football pools. Then when George V1 died it was non stop solemn music, seemed like the end of the world Now it's non stop intrusive interviews, I remember when the Queen Mother died, Peter Sissons was interviewing a lady who was present immediately after she died. "How was the passing, peaceful" "Was the Queen there, and how did it affect her" and such similar questions The woman should have told him to mind his own business
