Everything changed from that moment, didn't it? It was all Mantovani and Leroy Anderson before that.... I can remember visiting my older cousins and watching them dancing to Rock around the Clock... I thought it was terribly bold and I felt embarrassed I can't remember which came first, "Rock around the clock" or "Heartbreak hotel" I remember the film Blackboard Jungle that Rock around was the music to, and cinema's being vandalised. From then to the Rolling Stones, and out parents thought it was the end of civilisation

I thought it was terribly bold and I felt embarrassed Sad to say I am sure it was that (was it a film as well) that I went to see at my local Odeon in Redhill. I remember a few people got up to jive in the aisles and were promptly thrown out. Then some one threw chewing gum at the screen which caused a lot of damage as t proved a bit difficult to remove. Don't know about happy days, but carefree days.

The film was 'Blackboard Jungle', which had nothing to do with rock and roll, however it featured the sound-track to Rock Around The Clock during the opening credits.

He had such a mellow voice...miles better than Sinatra (blasphemy) IMHO. I loved this track and also "Walk away" ...beautiful. I recall seeing his wife talking about him recording "From Russia with Love" - they both went to see the film and no sign of the song...cut to scene of Connery in little boat with lovely woman...and what's playing on the transistor radio? "...from Russia with love, I fly to you..." 😄 - sigh...
