I am just starting to get bored with all the guff being spouted on whether we (GB) will stay or go, and the dire consequences for either option. However two things do get me a bit excited.
First, why should we be paying child benefit for someone living and perhaps working here but who's children are in Poland France or anywhere else in the EU? And I would say the same for a Brit who is now living in Australia but can still claim the winter fuel allowance.
Also, people have slated Cameron for stating that if we leave then we could finish up with migrant camps at Dover. Well I think he could be not so far from the truth on that one. After all at the moment we have effectively moved our border control from England to France, with the assistance of the French so if we leave why on earth should the French bother to keep people out of the UK.? It is pretty obvious the French would rather not have those people in France so the solution would seem to be, let them all go to the UK and let the UK deal with it.
Or am I being over simplistic?

I think you are buying some press lies.
The winter allowance WAS* only paid to Brits living in the EU, if deemed to live in a climate warranting it. Obviously, we in the South of France did not get it ,as the temperature rarely sank below minus 25! You are not elegible for child allowance if your child does not live with you.
* No one, outside the UK, gets it now

Thanks Arena. You have reduced my stress level, and I did not know that. As you say, lies, damned lies and the press.
Reminds me of a good friend who was press secretary for a pretty well known organisation. She took a call from a 'reporter' from some rag, I think it was the Sunday Sport who said
'Oi misses, could a chimpanzee fly an airliner?'
She said it was on the tip of her tongue to say
'depends on the chimpanzee and depends on the airliner' and she could see the banner headlines the following day
' ***** CONFIRM CHIMPANZEES FLY AIRLINERS' So she said
'Under no circumstances could any chimpanzee fly any airliner' To which he replied
'Well it doesn't really matter, we are going to print it anyway'

I hope I have enough grey cells left not to have taken any of those that seriously, especially the utterings of Carswell and Farage. As for the faceless bureaucrats in Brussels making our laws, well they are faceless, but just happen to be politicians and the majority of them are not as far as I know answerable to the British electorate.
But I was more interested in what would happen to the migrants in France if we left . I think Cameron has a point there for reasons I put above.
I personally don't think we will leave, unless of course someone cocks up big time. Most of the shadow cabinet want us to stay, and most of the cabinet do as well. And Farage might well beat his chest and postulate, but he is regarded by all but the die hards as a bit of a clown. Problem is he is quite a persuasive clown working on the premise that if you say something often enough and loudly enough it will eventually come to pass.

OK JJ. Who are the MPs for Yorkshire? I have no idea jimshoo without looking it up, but I don't live there. I could however probably name 80% + of the MP's in my particular area. I don't think I can remember the name of my MEP either.

I have to say I and everyone else I have spoken to can't wait for the referendum to vote out. We could use some of the money we would no longer have to hand over to the eu to greatly strengthen our borders.

I really don't know whether I am for staying in or coming out, but I am interested in the arguments. Would my business suffer if we came out? I don't know. Would my freedom of movement suffer? I doubt it.
I have just finished watching a fascinating two parter by Simon Reeve on Greece. I have friends who live there and if ever there was an example of a failed state Greece has to be it. I know that it is more to do with the Euro than the EU, but the two are really joined at the hip.

Arena. You said:
Now I am confused, because on the BBC news at lunchtime it stated that this is was one of Camerons specific demands, that child care should not be paid to children of people working in the UK if the children did not (I have précised) According to the report that is being watered down and child care will be (maybe) index linked to the country in which those children live.
I have to say that IF child care is being paid for children living overseas that seems wrong, regardless of how little money is involved, and regardless of whether that is index linked or not and I am with Cameron on that one.
