Quite a long one, but, but wonderful all the same. It is a pivotal point in CP Snow's The Affair, the nearest he ever gets to action. The character speaking knows exactly what he is saying, and knows how everyone else will react to it: but he still (as is the way) has to hedge it about with causes and sub-clauses, double negatives and misdirection.
The scene is a court of the seniors of a Cambridge college, and they are trying to decide whether there is enough evidence to reinstate a scientist who has previously been dismissed for fraud:

I use Brainy Quote in class as a soft start to the morning. It's a chance for the pupils to come in and quietly do something that improve their handwriting while the boring bits of attendance and lunches are sorted. It also give them a wee thought for the day. I'm moving through the motivational ones just now.

They are 11 years old. It allows them to settle really quickly, reminds them of punctuation, spelling etc, and then I move them onto comprehension which is already set out and we have a wonderful quiet way of starting the week. My favourite quote so far is: Good, better, best. Never let it rest. 'Til your good is better and your better is best.
