As an employer jonjel I bet you don't use zero hours contracts! Many of the so called jobs aren't really jobs at all - we would have called it 'casual labour'. No, I don't use zero hours contracts. But I think from what I have heard that in some cases it suits both parties rather than being a question of the fat rich industrialists taking advantage of the poor working man or woman. I do have one lady who works part time. She is on flexi hours with a minimum number of hours guaranteed, and is paid pro-rata, and her holiday entitlement is also on a pro-rata basis. She frequently does more hours than her contract, and is paid for them. It suits both of us.

Well done on that jonjel, I am serious by the way.
The problem is that, unlike the propaganda on this issue, most people on zero hours contracts don't want to be in that situation. Students are usually quite happy on them but not usually the mums and dads of this world.

Ah class -- where would the Socialists be without it? I sometimes think they are the only ones who give a hoot about it...

Ah class -- where would the Socialists be without it? I sometimes think they are the only ones who give a hoot about it... ....that all depends onyour circumstances don't you think? The 'I'm all right brigade' seems to forget the 'I'm not all right brigade'. We are comfortably well off - that doesn't mean that I believe that everyone else is in the same boat. They are not!
