Should the NHS act as gatekeepers for illegal immigrants
(If you don't know what I am on about you have not read a newspaper for about 6 months!)

Should the NHS act as gatekeepers for illegal immigrants (If you don't know what I am on about you have not read a newspaper for about 6 months!) I can only comment on the French system. Everyone is treated in the same system. Those with NHS (equivalent) get treatment under the system. Anyone not covered, pays cash.

As should be the case here, but what seems to be happening is that people from overseas are coming here for elective surgery, things like hip replacements when they do not have a right to free NHS treatment but are somehow slipping through the net.
No-one is suggesting that if someone falls ill, or is involved in an accident they are not treated, but as in France and other countries, you pay, or your insurance company pays.
The other suggestion is that landlords might be asked to check the ID of their guests in an attempt to weed out illegal immigrants.
Employers already have to verify someone has the right to work here.

Surely it would not be difficult to implement.
I think there is across the board agreement on this.............
