Thanks Arena; I'll take you up on the choccies offer, and the coffee's on me It is beautiful here; somehow - because it's on a peninsula I suspect - it's managed so far to keep a low profile and maintain most of its traditional architecture (ie, little terrace houses where the workers used to live, with a few ancient bluestone mansions where the rich guys used to live) and old-working-port atmosphere. I've always loved Willy - no, it's a nickname for this suburb, not... - so when I had to move last year I thought bugger it, about time I actually lived here. Of course the yuppies and bloody developers are sniffing around; it won't be long now before the joint's ruined like the rest of Melbs, but I should still have a few more years to enjoy it

I googled it too. What a lovely place, Prue. As you say it seems full of nice old buildings. Hope it continues so!

I wanna know more about norty's new place when the big move's done and recovered from; some photos'd be good too I'm going down to see the flat next week once we have broken up from school. I will try to take some before and after pictures. We are getting the place renovated and decorated before we move in early August. It's the first time we have been able to do this as normally we move in and live amongst the work and do it ourselves, but I think that with such high ceilings and having to paint around work commitments is too hard and expensive as we'd have to hire scaffolding at an exorbitant rate per week. It would take us weeks to decorate one room. I'm very very excited and picked out several things so far to see at the Festival Theatre shortly after we move.

I'm a Scot but live in sunny Normandy - well it is sunny at the moment! We looked at properties round Caen (St Victor?) when we first started looking, before choosing the Perigord.

I think you probably chose well Arena! We have a reasonable climate here but not too different from what we were used to in the UK. Slightly warmer in summer but slightly colder in winter. As a keen gardener I needed the climate to suit my needs - I've also got a Scottish fairly fair skin so too hot and I'm b*****ed! We had had a holiday in this area and loved it - so we came back! We love the Jura as well but so far from the sea and ferries we decided against it! Ten years on and no regrets, I think that says it all really.

Yeh, I've been a Perigordian for nearly 25 years. Usual 'joke'......do you think you'll like it?
