We have been tidying up our much overgrown small garden, I have planted broad beans in our raised beds, they have to be covered over until they are tall enough to resist the cats and squirrels. We have transplanted our huge dahlias against the fence this year as they wanted to take over the bed they were in previously. Progress is slow though when you've got a bad back

I can't get my dahlia pictures to download / upload on to this thread it keeps telling me all my pictures are too big even though I have reduced them to almost nothing.

My yard is awful. This winter has been so long, cold and wet, that all I have is mould and moss. Vain efforts on dry days to combat have led to nothing and frankly after work I sometimes just flump in a chair. I will have to buy something specialist and get myself motivated.

Hi Hild, if you can stand the smell the old jeyes fluid used on a dry day kills both of those two .

Can I stand it. When I was pregnant with my youngest it was my favourite perfume. Getting a dry day has been the problem Rikki. Never more than one in a row and usually when I'm at work.

My lovely neighbour has de-weeded my two narrow beds in the front garden. He has offered many times (he loves gardening) and I finally had to admit that there was no way i could get on top of the ground elder and bindweed without his help. Mr T’s health problems means that his help in the garden is limited. I have just planted some sweet William, wallflowers and some honesty I’ve grown from seed. I’ve also got some bulbs to plant but they can wait until Wednesday. Aqua aerobics and lunch with a friend tomorrow.
I mix 5ltrs white vinegar, I cup of salt and a squirt of washing up liquid in a watering can - it kills everything so applied only where nothing is being planted.

Hi toots, mrs cut-out is doing most of the garden planting etc, we have next door's bramble sneaking behind other plants as it grows under our gravel boards, I dug down over six inches yesterday hoping to pull it out , in the end I left the hole and poured quite a bit of domestos in it, but I doubt it will kill the wretched stuff?

Already looking good rikki, just watching a bit of TT qualifying then I’m off out to do battle with some weeds and (very late I know) so some more seeds. Hopefully some warm weather now will encourage them as the other seeds objected to the cold, wet weather we have had,

I had to deflower my lovely rose because it had wet rot.

I dumped the dahlia tubers, even though they survived the winter. Instead, I bought a variety of fuchsias - different types and colours. The snails don't touch them. Also I've got those daisy type things osteospermum (?) I think that's the answer for me, plant things the critters won't touch, rather than the eggshells/copper deterrents - what's the point? What's that growing with the purple 🟣 round heads? Allium? Agapanthus? Yes, I bought one of those last year - cost sixteen quid as well...has nt come up. I take it you like broad beans 🤔

Agapanthus can take a while to establish. They like a tight space. I often think mine is dead then it comes back again. Alium dead heads should be removed ASAP then new ones will come through.
