Years ago, the highlight of my week was watching "Cheers" on a Friday evening. I used to like all the old British comedies, Fools and Horses, Open All hours and The Royle Family being probably my top three. I did love a comedy series called Early Doors which, I thought, never got the recognition it deserved. I was never keen on Faulty Towers- John Cleese over acting put me off. Not keen on the prison one with Ronnie Barker- the name escapes me.

Years ago I (when I was a stripling up until my twenties and thirties) I do recalkl a few Comedy programes. The Army Game, Steptoe, (the others wont come to mind), but I found the radio Comedies (Navy Lark, Hancocks half Hour, Round the Horne), where much better without pictures . I wonder if we all imagined the same picture. That Kid from Buckingham Palace (think his name was Charles) did a good imitation of Milligans voice.

Well, Hancock was always good, as was Steptoe from the same writers; but excluding Steptoe these later comedy's were un-funny comedies? Thus for the last Forty years I don't maintain a TV.. (OK, so I'm a miserable git).
Some radio Comedies were good (Navy Lark, Claire in the Community, etc) were good but had got stale - we've heard it all with nothing addedthat was funny. Cabin Pressure manage to end whilst it was still enjoyable.

I wasn't keen on Monty Python, too much schoolboy humour. How could I forget my favourite - Dinner Ladies! In my humble opinion, it deserved more accolades than all the others put together. I couldn't enjoy One Foot in the Grave. I knew too many women living miserable lives with men like that.

I always thought Prunella Scales was good in Fawlty Towers, but there's something about John Cleese I just don't like.

I don't know how funny Fawlty Towers was good at the time... but I think it was good that it stopped after using up any comedik value that might have been there.

I don't know if it's a comedy show, but I'll probably be laughing like a loon when I watch "Have I For News For You", which returns to BBC1 tonight.

For the first time we recently watched Keeping Up Appearances. Hyacinth is a monster but we loved her and watched the whole five series. We gave up on New for You years ago. Monty Python and Fawlty Towers - not for me (Mr T still laughs at FT) nor one foot in the grave. I loved Dinner Ladies but Mr T didn’t (I loved Victoria Wood whatever she did). I listen to Radio 4 Extra a lot during the day both comedies and dramas.
