Our first house had a basement flat , which we let to a young cameraman. He worked mainly on TV ads.
One day he invited me to visit our local to meet his frequent director. We met and got on very well ,finishing the evening well oiled and very chummy. Sometime during the evening we discussed TV ads including one they had just finished for Hovis.
It was years later that the director got famous......He was Ridley Scott.

Austin Mitchell. We talked about punk and skiffle.
And I once had a pee next to Tim Hodgkinson, the sax and keyboard player out of Henry Cow.
Oh, and I once Chrissie Hind' s brother at pool, by default.

He used to present the local news in Yorkshire and parts of Lincolnshire.

I met and chatted with, Gerald, The Duke of Westminster. He was the patron of the Chester branch of the Samaritans. He was so lovely. He attended every annual meeting, which was boring in the extreme. He was very gracious. After the meeting, two friends and I, all young women at the time, used to go for a drink to the The George, a nearby pub. Once when we went it was packed out and we were sitting very close to a table full of men. We used to refer to the people who used our services, as clients. I came back from the bar with the drinks and said to the others, "I've just seen one of my clients by the bar." The men on the next table all looked at each other and started whispering, while looking us over very closely.

Mrs A and I went to a party thrown by the late Bob Hoskins.
I looked round the room and said to her, "I'm the only person here I've never heard of"

Shook hands once with Frankie Vaughan when he visited our Boys' Club. Waved a little Union Jack at Monty when he passed five yards away from me standing in a jeep. He waved to me. Must have been the little beret I had on just like his. Played Ray Reardon and John Spencer in snooker.

I knocked on William Roache's front door and asked for his autograph when I was in primary school. I don't think you're allowed to do that any longer. He was very polite, I'm not convinced he'd ever been asked for one before.

Living opposite the BBC Ealing studios and using the same pub I met many famous people. Also having a famous wife I was friends with many others. I don't usually mention it as some people seem to think it's bragging. BTW Spike Milligan was my sons godfather.

I met John Alderton and his wife Pauline Collins in Chester Market. They were appearing at the Gateway in Chester at the time. The market was quiet and no one, other than I, recognised them. I was buying material and I approached them quietly and politely. John was very shy and Pauline laughed. I had a pen, but no paper, so I tore a bit of paper off the material stall and got their autographs. All of a sudden other people clocked what was going on and the couple were mobbed. John Alderton kept my pen. Pauline Collins was absolutely beautiful.
