It will be interesting to watch it now and see if it has the same effect. I read the book by Harold Robbins and must admit that though it was violent, the sex scenes did give me a little relish.

Highlights 15-July #TPTV 09:30 ROBIN HOOD (1955) Premiere 09:30 JET STORM (1959) 15:05 YOU CAN'T DO WITHOUT LOVE (1944) 17:00 THE GRASS IS GREENER (1961) 19:10 ESCAPE FROM ZAHRAIN (1962) Premiere 21:00 RUMPOLE OF THE BAILEY (1988) 22:05 HOME OF THE BRAVE (1949) Premiere
Escape From Zahrain moves at a pretty good clip. It doesn't let the political polemics get too much in the way of the action
Mark Robson's sensitively directed film perfectly captures the social mores and racial bigotry of its time during the stresses and traumas of war. The dialogue is brittle and thoroughly convincing. Although Lloyd Bridges and James Edwards are both excellent, Frank Lovejoy steals the film with his portrait of Mingo. Steve Brodie is just right as the insecure bigot who is more ignorant than evil. This is one of my five favourite war movies of all time. It reminds me of another great film made the next year called "The Men" with Marlon Brando. I give this one 10 out of 10. IMDB

*Shy Brenda Thompson writes naive children's stories to amuse herself. Stifled and desperate for a man of her own, she leaves Liverpool, telling her mom she's pregnant, and gets a job in a boutique in London. She moves in with the promiscuous but good-hearted Caroline but the mod set shuns her for her plain looks. Then she kidnaps a strange young man's dog, so as to perhaps get to know him while returning it. The young man turns out to be Peter, a psychopath with a predilection for killing beautiful things. He renames Brenda Wendy, and they start a hopeful, if strange, relationship. It might have a chance, if it weren't for Peter's murderous secrets.
