Its been some time since I called in here mainly because of computer and human problems too numerous to go into but with having a message come through about calling in I realised I could just click on the link to get me in once I remembered my password. I hope everyone is coping with this worldwide lock down and I just hope it has not caused more problems with doing it. Here I am having lived through numerous Prime Ministers and various changes of government and monarchs, plus I have lived through a war after being bombed out twice and machine gunned twice and then through the upheaval of evacuation.
Then the post war years and through a London Smog in 1952 that lasted for nearly a week and killed 12,000 people. To crown it all in 1957 we had the Asian Flu pandemic that killed around 1 million people worldwide BUT we still carried on with life.
I am now at age of 90 years living in solitary confinement. I feel as though I have had some practice for when the Grim Reaper knocks on the door.
So much for progress. After getting that off my chest I am now looking for a few belly laughs to help the meds go down. Keep well and safe everyone.

Loughborough in Leicestershire In the Midlands Jimmy in 1941. We were machine gunned on the train. You must have been North London, we were Regents Park and evacuated to Northamptonshire. My parents eventually moved there after their area was bombed, I often wonder what I would have become had we stayed in London My older cousin wanted me to track down a guy with whom she'd had a bit of a fling when she was evacuated to see what had happened to him. I refused !

In fact I wrote a book about the first 20 years of my life that takes in the war years with all proceeds after printing costs taken out going to my local Childrens Hospice well over 15 years ago and its still selling well.

Many thanks Rondetto. I think I would go nuts now if I had not got my I-pads and computer. I only wish more elderly folks had learnt how to use one but my son showed me how to do it well over 17 years ago. That it when I put my WW2 website up. I do Facetime with my family every night too so that they can see that I am ok. IF you can call being severely disabled OK.

Sorry, I have just seen this thread. How lovely to hear from you, Maywalk. I am so pleased to know you are coping with this dreadful pandemic. I ,too, am isolating. After all, it's better to be safe than sorry. Like you, I would go mad without my computers, tablets and kindles. They keep me plugged in to the world. Since my husband went into a care home (he has Dementia),I am living alone and find I have more time on my hands than I ever had before. Of course, if I look for them, there are always jobs to do, but I don't look. Best wishes and stay safe.x

My hubby had to go in a care home for the last six weeks of his life too Althea. I had been looking after him until I fell and broke my left hip in three places. That was in 2015. He was 87 then and I was 85. I am 90 now and disabled but still getting many requests for tales of my life as it was way back in time. It has helped to keep my brain going even if the body work is fallng to pieces.

Loughborough in Leicestershire In the Midlands Jimmy in 1941. We were machine gunned on the train. Just found this... Was that perchance Lockington Halll???
It was a Maternity Home when I made my entrance. There is a Group of people in Facebook of People born there - Mostly Manned (or Womaned) by emigrants who have made revisits, including photo's - the Organisation that allow visits. Photo's are included on Facebook.

Apologies for not getting back to you Goodlookingone but been in and out of hospital and lost track of so many things.
Now to answer your question. NO it wasn't Lockington Hal. I was nearly 11 years old when evacuated so finished up in a strangers home and going to a make shift evacuee school until I was 14 in 1944 when I started work. It is all in the book I wrote about the first 20 years of my life. All proceeds after printing costs taken out goes to my local Childrens Hospice.

Brilliant to see you May and so sorry you've been in and out of hospital. I had been wondering how you were. It's excellent that you can at least keep up to date and post with friends on here. I feel as we get older, times like this past 12 months is a year lost of our lives. Having had to self isolate and with lock downs and fire breaks home has been like a prison. Having said that, you've lived through many an ordeal and survived to tell the story. Good to have you back.
