Is this old game still being played? I believe it used to be played a lot on ships to keep the passengers amused when going on long voyages.

I don't know; I can picture it - I think - in films and that. I don't see why they shouldn't play it on cruises - there's not much else you can do.
Momus did a song about it, but I think his rules aren't the same as the standard set. It gets quite nightmarish at the end.

It should work if you click it in the middle. It doesn't matter - it's the first thing I thought of when I saw the word Quoits, and I can't think of another song that uses it - though I'm grateful for you sending me down a Youtube hole of his songs, which I like to be reminded of every now and then (he is Scottish, and named himself after the Greek god of mischief).

They used to have it at the annual village fete along with bowling for a pig and throwing wet sponges at the school headmaster
