Ever spend a holiday at a holiday camp in the UK? If so, how was it?

When my children were small,we used to go to a caravan park in Great Yarmouth. My parents came too. One of my lasting memories is when the pianist was singing that he was pwaying for wain in Califonia so the gwapes could gwow so they could make more wine. My father and I became hysterical and had to leave. It wasn't a proper "holiday camp",but there was lots for the children to do. Once when the children were swimming at the pool, one of them went back to the caravan and accidently let the dog out. He followed my son and jumped into the pool. My older son came running to me(playing crazy golf) and said,"mum,Jas has been pronounced." They had asked us to remove the dog, over the tannoy system. We removed him at once.

Early 50s my godmother took me to a Warners holiday camp on Hayling Island, off Portsmouth. I was homesick, and cried a lot I remember a basic wooden shed to sit and sleep in, communal toilets and hand basins at the end of the block We went on too trips, one a mystery tour that finished up at Wicksteed Park in Kettering - right next to my school and where we used to run around for cross country. Then a trip to Portsmouth to see Victory and where an American battleship was docked and open for visitors. Whist there I needed a pee and a sailor took me into the loos where there were just urinals, I remember him lifting me up so I could reach, and trying to pee I would love to go on one of these weekends today at Butlins, Minehead, where they have themed weekends, rock and roll etc

No, never. I prefer life's comforts. A good hotel for me every time.

No, never. I prefer life's comforts. A good hotel for me every time. I prefer self catering, eat what I like and where I like rather than the rigidness of hotels. First time we went to Benidorm we stayed at the Mar Blau hotel, sea front and close to the Old Town Plenty of Spanish people there who all started queuing for the dining room half an hour before it opened

We always stay in a four star hotel in the old town, we book half board and have a huge breakfast and sometimes lunch but we never have evening meal. I can't be bothered queuing for the restaurant so we eat out every evening.

She does the best fish and chips you will find, proper chips made from fresh potatoes, with mushy peas. Very cheap and very nice. She also does pies and faggots etc

Funny you should mention this Jimmy, I have known them for many years and have even done some UK adverts for them. We go every time we are over there for a meal. Unfortunately, it is up for sale now, they are retiring. We will miss them as it is the oldest chippy in Benidorm.

God, I'd be eating chips and mushy peas (or curry sauce) all week.
Not that that's necessarily a bad thing, like.

I think they are the second best fish n chips I've ever had. The first is Les & Rita's in Rhyl then Rays No1 in Benidorm. They have the fish sent over from Grimsby and they are huge. I always tell them just a few chips because the fish are so large.

The Sign of the Fish in Lincoln is pretty good (or it was 10 years ago - not been since). The mushy peas are like a sauce.

That's a pity, I hope that if it sells they keep Lees on. She was nice Perhaps any new owner will continue the same service but it invariably changes. The place opposite has had about five different owners who have all failed

There's been a few small businesses up that alley that have closed in the past few years. Millords are always busy so I guess they've pinched their business. There's a few chippies opened now but they're nowhere as good as Rays. Last year in May a Costa was opened in Calle Gerona. We paid €11 for two Lattes which was very expensive. When we were the in September it had closed.
