I shall mop up 1: Idlewild. I'm quite sure Krushchev is a better transliteration too.
4. Their lead singer was the drummer.
6. 1947.

Well done spot - I have to admire your perseverance!
So, 1 is correct - Idlewild it was -and your answer to 4 was close enough. I was actually looking for, "they all took the group's names from their drummers" which just leaves one question still to answer correctly:
6. In which year was The Highway Code first published?

You're right, scorp, but spot has already given that answer following a huge clue from ARENA. The only question outstanding is "6. In which year was The Highway Code first published?" TJ

I guessed 1923, but wouldn't take bets on it
And having now looked it up - I was wise not to...

Thanks, scorp. I'm off for a week in the sun later today so I'll put everyone out of their misery with the answer -
The Highway Code was first published in 1931 (14 April to be precise).
Well done to those who had a go and a special thank you to spot for resurrecting the quiz after no one had gone near it for two weeks!
I'm sure ARENA has another one up his sleeve to keep you amused.

WH Smith, I expect. Though on second thoughts I have it in mind that started on a platform at Reading.
