Just nipped into town for a few bits and couldn't understand why the roads were so quiet. It became clear when all the petrol stations had run out of petrol and diesel! The 'gilet jaune' have blocked the port of Brest which is the fuel terminal! We are held up at all the rounadbouts of course but this is beginning to really hurt business and ordinary folk. Will Macron be able to sort it out? I very much doubt it as his tax hikes all over the place have proved, the fuel rise come January was just the straw that broke the camel's back it would seem. just another problem come the move!

Isn't this all typically French though, anything they object to they take to the streets and blockade to protest, using violence if necessary. Even recently extending to fishermen

The view from France is quite different Jimmy.
The violence isn't coming from the 'legit' protestors it is coming from 'agents provocateuers'. You won't have seen the police removing their protective helmets in support of the peaceful demonstration - that is the photo they don't want you to see. The leaders of the 'gilet jaune' were supposed to meet with the Prime Minister today but have received death threats so refuse to attend. The death threats are coming from......no prizes for guessing that one. If Macron had taken the fuel tax hike off the table three weeks ago there would have been no need for 'gilet jaune'. Think about it a wee bit before replying - please!

We don't do that - a million took to the streets to protest against the Iraq war. Didn't change the policy. Goodness knows how many protested against the Poll Tax - didn't change the pollicy

I have always admired the French for protesting in a militant way when they feel they have been treated unfairly. French MPs can not ride roughshod over their voters like some other countries I could name (but won't.) If we demonstrated more when we were enraged by unfair policies, our MPs would not take us so much for granted.
