Over last weekend I watched King of Thieves and A Star is Born. I enjoyed them both. King of Thieves is based on a true story of the gang who robbed the Hatton Garden safety deposit boxes over the Easter weekend. A star is Born,is,of course an old story. The first version starred James Mason and Judy Garland, the second version starred Kris Kristofferson and Barbra Streisand. The new version stars Brad Cooper and Lady GaGa.

I'm new here so not sure if I've posted in the right place . Apologies if not. Still finding my way around with no satnav - too technical for me.
1963 - The End of The Civilised World.
It was a little "Butchers" B film from 1963 on Saturday morning - "Danger By My Side" which reminded me of this sad fact. A competent little crime thriller starring a now forgotten but beautiful actress named Maureen Connolly. Femininity of a type now extinct, beautifully dressed, stunningly attractive, beautiful received diction and a lovely speaking voice. Where are they now? After 1963 came Twiggy, mini skirts - ugh! Skinny stick insects, silly spy movies, radio one, teen revolutions, hippies, ladettes, rap and all things uncivilised. I am trapped in the hunky body of William Brown when really I think my soul is that of Jacob Rees Mogg. Beam me back, Scottie !

The body of Rees Mogg sends a dreadful shudder down my spine!

Watched an hour of the BAFTAs but couldn't stand Joanna Lumley any more, she really is a waste of space As for the awards, most of the films we have never heard of or ever will. Must be a poor year

I really enjoyed Gone Girl, clever and thrilling. I didn't like La La Land, not entertaining at all. I didn't find The Favourite very entertaining either. The acting was excellent, the costumes were wonderful and the setting was spectacular, but over all it was sad and depressing with a weird ending.

The clip I've seen of The Favourite of Olivia Coleman as Queen Anne screaming at some poor maid put me off wanting to see this film. I usually like these historical dramas but will give this one a miss
