Yes, Pointless is an excellent attempt to bring some innovation to the well-used - some might say overused - format of the TV quiz show. I also enjoy Eggheads and, occasionally, The Chase. The problem with all 3 of these shows is that they're on late afternoon/early evening before I'm in TV watching mode so don't get to see them very often.
I had knee surgery earlier in the year and had the "opportunity" to sample daytime TV during my enforced inactivity. It really is as bad as its reputation but I did find BBC's "Perfection" and ITV's "Tipping Point" quizzes quite watchable. The latter adds a large element of luck to the skill and knowledge required to answer the questions and so can generate a degree of excitement in what is otherwise a fairly standard quiz show.
