Yes, and Brooklax. At least they were better than Syrup of Figs. Just remembered there was also a chewing gum with similar qualities called Feenamint I think. I remember my Mother telling about something even worse the children in her childhood were dosed with on a weekly basis. She said she didn't swallow it and went outside and spat it out, it was probably brimstone and treacle, yuck .

I used to have a spoonful of syrup of figs every morning when I was small.I hated it.
I bought a litre of Tippex. Big mistake!

Does anyone still have an Army and Navy stores by them? It closed by us years ago, I'd bought a lot from that store over the years too.

I have a replica of the Army & Navy stores catalogue/general Price List for 1939-40. It is a massive, hardback tome, which I spotted at a book sale. I find it fascinating, I believe the original was aimed at British people living abroad, mainly in the services. It really covers EVERYTHING ,from Abdominal belts to Zip Fastener kit bags and a 10 page Zoological dept and Zymocide, whatever that was. Most of the goods are illustrated, which brings back memories. I was 10-11 at the time so furnishings etc are familiar. This was for their store in Victoria in London which I believed closed some time ago.
Just checked and it seems it was taken over and re-branded by The House of Fraser in 2004 so presumably is still there. I doubt it's stock is anything like my catalogue though.

Blimey, I wonder how much that would fetch on Ebay. A friend of mine bought a house in Chester and when they checked the attic they found letters from WW1. They got £8000 for them on Ebay.

Not very much I would think. As I said, it is a replica, an original, who knows? It is still a fascinating book to dip into anyway. Going further back I do have a genuine copy of a newspaper published when Queen Victoria died and others from other momentous occasions. My grandparents kept things like that. For me the advertisements are just as interesting as the news reports.

Even that would be worth quite a bit to a collector.

I would not part with it, I find it so interesting. I have a lot of books and they are my most precious possession. When I fall off the twig or can no longer read the family can sort out the ones they want to keep and sell the rest. There are some worth more than others and one or two quite rare ones so all I hope is, who ever gets them will cherish them.
