Morning all: I wonder if many will venture into the pubs in England today. Nothing open here in Wales. Doesn't look like a nice day ahead. Another sleepless night, up and down like a yoyo. Not me, yet. I love wandering down to road for a pint - or two but the rules in place I think would make it impossible to enjoy. I don't really go for the beer, I go for the company but table service and distancing would make that impossible. And also it is a pretty dour day.
It is a 15 minute walk on a warm evening to get there, and 25 minutes to get home. The difference is staggering

In Belgium and Holland it is all table service, seems to work very well but the "café" society there usually involves food as well

Quite a lot of pubs here are saying booked table inside for meals only and outside for drinks. I think that is the rule in NI so perhaps they're copying and at least they're guaranteed at least £10 per head.
The little cafe in the High St has opened but as she has been doing very well with take away and delivery she says she will give it a month due to the cost of the two extra staff and extra cleaning. There are lots of retirement flats nearby and I think she has done well with deliveries. She offers a weekly menu of 3 main meal choices and a choice of desserts for £35, delivered fresh or frozen. Plus almost everything on the menu.
I hope she stays open I enjoy a cuppa in there sometimes.

That meal deal looks comparable to these national meal home deliveries, Wiltshire farm foods for example but when you consider that you can buy a supermarket frozen dinner for just over £1 it seems expensive I see the pubs that are opening have wacked their prices up, greedy buggers - I hope customers boycott them. Talk about a self inflicted death wish

Table service and all the other things they have had to put in place has to have come at a price, so I think as long as the increase in price is not over the top I cant say I can blame them.

Talk about a self inflicted death wish Yes frozen meala can be much cheaper, but these would be made fresh that day and all the veg would be fresh too. I suppose it's about priorities and what you fancy. The food is lovely there. On the board today was Toad in the Hole, Roast Beef and Chicken Balti with all the trimings, and a choice of Apple Pie and custard, Bakewell tart or blueberry Japanese meringue (I think they call that daquoise nowadays). Thats not bad for a fiver really, although I don't expect the portions are huge.

I love Toad in the hole, always make it with Tesco Finest sausages. Mother used to do it with lamb "chump chops" but they are so expensive these days Love all those old time meals, successfully made Bubble and Squeak this week after years of trying. It used to always fall to bits but this time I prepared it in the morning and left it in the fridge for a while Bread and Butter pudding, again Tesco do a wonderful version with a super rich custard, home made casseroles and stews with dumplings, you can't beat them

I imagine the 'Pensioners Delivery Special' meal deals are most likely all that kind of thing. I think I saw savoury mince and leek dumpling on the choice one day - I would eat that anytime.
On the normal menu it's £6.50 but perhaps the portion is larger. I've never had a main meal there but it always smells nice. I just treat myself to an omelette or beans on toast and a pot of coffee now and again, if I'm off work.
Hot cross bun bread and butter pudding is lush, but my favourite pud is crumble.😁😁

Morning all: I just heard the word autumn on the tv weather forecast, surely not. No washing until tomorrow then.

We regularly have the Tesco liver and bacon which is very nice, more than enough for two and under £3

Yes I love liver, all kinds and kidneys. Do you remember when they were a regular feature on restaurant menus. Now they're virtually never seen.

My mother was usually a good cook, but she cooked liver until you could sole shoes with it. I don't eat any offal at all. Do you think I'm offal?
