My friend (now RIP sadly x) needed building up following effects of chemotherapy and was given a sheet by the dietician and on it, specifically, MacDonalds fries! Apparently, apart from being calorific, the way they are cooked makes them very digestible.

Apparently, apart from being calorific, the way they are cooked makes them very digestible. McDonald's chips: First, the potatoes are peeled and then cut into a fry shape. Next, they are dipped in dextrose (natural sugar) to maintain a golden colour, before being treated with sodium acid pyrophosphate which prevents the chips from going grey on their way to the fast food outlets. Enjoy! BTW: I thought you'd know all about chips, Marispiper

You are faced with an bewildering menu up above the counter and a "schoolboy/schoolgirl" tutting if you don't make a split second choice

Yes me too, I suppose they do have their uses but I much prefer home made food. All these coffee shops that have sprung up everywhere seem to flog everything with so many calories. Cakes, pastries and biscuits.

I don't think I've ever had them. I wasn't sure what they cooked them in for a long time (it was lard until the early 90s, so I made the right choice there) and they still (unless they have stopped very recently) use beef tallow (as well as all those other things) as flavouring.
I've been in a McDonald's twice: one time to meet my sister when she was on a trip to London, and another time in Lincoln, when I waited outside the toilets while her sister's kids were in there. Horrible places.

Ah someone like me then. I use Starbucks in Manchester airport and Alicante airport. I have a loyalty card for Starbucks but they won't accept it in the airports. I love their skinny Latte. I never eat there but I do love skinny Latte's in Starbucks and Nero's.

Well, all I can say is Harley St dieticians recommend them. I have to say it was the oddest thing to appear on that sheet! Perhaps she owned shares 😁

Very, very long queues by people ordering food for their breakfast

Did anyone else have sugar butties as a kid? I also used to enjoy it when my Mum made us a fried onion butty. I haven't had that for donkeys years.

My favourite butties are just with chips or with an egg and bacon. There is an annual county show here where a mobile kitchen wagon appears and they do the most amazing egg and bacon butty. One is enough to keep you going all day but you have to learn the technique of eating them to avoid the yolk dripping down your clothes
