I read somewhere that Frank didn't know the UK meaning and just liked it for the sound. I once got told off (by PM) on a message board for saying that I was nipping out for a fag. I did know the other meaning: I was fooling about. Though I did actually go out and have a smoke. I did not give the full title:

I did not give the full title: Similarly I recently noticed the word "pikey" used in a post which reminded me about another board where someone used the word which a PC poster objected to, claiming it was a slang word for a gypsy. It resulted in the closure of that board for a fwew days Weird, because where I live it is simply a word for someone who lives in a field
