Go Whitlock!!!😁 In terms of sport, isn't gymnastics just the extreme of what the human body is capable of??

I did too. Fiji were amazing...all over us! Funny, I was pleased for them and right chuffed with the silver . You sound disgusted 😁 BTW, you didn't tell us your sport... What year was it/where? I'm not sure it was fully obvious to us on telly just how big some of them are, but the Fijians are huge! My father was a rugby referee and when we lived in HongKong (when I was a teenager) he would referee some of the International HongKong sevens games. This was great as we got to sit in the stand where the officials and players sat whilst watching the games. It was a much smaller affair then than now, and teams would often sit in clumps soaking up the atmosphere. Anyway, we had the Fijian rugby team back to ours for a cocktail party, huge huge men whose hands and feet were bigger than anything I've ever seen then and now! I received a pair of Fijian rugby socks and they were my prized possession for many years. Norty. Modern rugby payers are all big. I have met a few. Phil Vickery (Ex England and Gloucester captain) is 6'6" and weighs 19 stone! Well he did when he was playing. A nicer man you would not wish to meet. And I could quote a few others. 7's is a different game and much faster than the grunt and grind of normal rugby. I guess the Fijians have just combined bulk with speed, which is why in 7's they have been No.1 in the world for a long time. And well done Usain Bolt. I did not wait up for that, but some achievement.

I don't know if this is olympics, or whether or not it's been posted before, but:

I love to see those horses doing amazing movements in the dressage but I'm a big fan of horses anyway. Especially when the one I've backed comes first in a race

And as for Bolt, use whatever superlatives you chose, they will not be enough!

"UK Sport, which determines how public funds raised via the national lottery and tax are allocated to elite-level sport, has pledged almost £350m to Olympic and Paralympic sports between 2013 and 2017, up 11% on the run-up to London 2012. Those sports that have fuelled the rise in Britain’s medal-table positions over the past eight years – athletics, boxing and cycling, for example – were rewarded with increased investment. “It’s a brutal regime, but it’s as crude as it is effective,” said Dr Borja Garcia, a senior lecturer in sports management and policy at Loughborough University. On average, each medal at the Rio Olympics has cost £5.5m" www.theguardian.com/sport/2016/aug/15/brutal-but-effective-why-team-gb-is-winning-so-many-olympic-medalsA look at the medals table shows that the countries that have spent the most have won the most medals, in other words the medals have been bought. Is this the spirit of the Olympic Games We used to complaint that all the soviet competitors were in the army, i.e. paid. Here we are doing just the same An interesting conversation to be had is if we should be investing that money in the NHS

Our women's hockey team are doing well, beating the Kiwis to reach the final (bet that hurt in Auckland). Attractive women too, not a moustache or any sandals in sight

The money spent on our elite athletes to go on to win gold or World Champs are inspiring our youth to get moving off the sofa and away from games consoles. This in the long run must save money for the NHS.

No doubt there will be a surge following these Olympics, as there is in playing tennis after Wimbledon, but is it sustainable

Like I care! Investment is better than doping - and the competitors still have to do the job. I am really enjoying this sportfest 😊
Ah yes..a moan. Have you noticed how many reporters keep saying "atherletes" and "triatherlon" etc. Its driving me MAD !
