Looks like a string of caps for a cap gun.

I hate loud noises and my brothers used to have cap guns. If I could,I would soak the rolls of caps so they wouldn't work. I would blame it on my sister.

Friends at school would set the caps off between their front teeth, and I am not joking. I suspect the NHS dentists were kept busy as a result in later years.

Is it yours? I would hazard a guess and say it's a very early toaster. If it is, what was inside to provide the heat ? Great pic

The heat source was from the gas - you placed it over the gas ring and propped the bread on the sides. Dare I confess we had one when I was a child. I have no idea where my dad got it but doubt very much if he bought it new. It was lethal, you burnt your fingers every time you used it!

Love it..I can just imagine you, or your Dad, leaping about going 'ow, ow' trying to extricate your toast!

Nope. And I may be old but have progressed from cooking in front of an open fire with a hole in the ceiling to let the smoke out!

Is it for peeling something? Might have to be round though so not spuds...apples? Why would you want to peel apples in quantity? Mind you, they might in France with all those tarts!
