At least some British comics were funny... to call most of the US-type magazines 'comics' is bordering on crashing the Trades Descriptions Act!
They used to ship US pulp mags over as ballast, and didn't the do-gooders take them seriously! Somewhere I have a copy of Frederick Wertham's Seduction of the Innocent that cause quite a furore, and lots of pearl-clutching...
