I am a huge fan... I first started playing the game aged seven and took nearly all of my shots courtesy of a lemonde crate, as my ladder. I played at fairly high levels ,as a teenager and was a regular, in the hallowed halls of Burroughs an Watts emporium.

I quite like the game if it's played at a quick tempo. I can't bear it when players spend ages looking, bending, chalking, looking again, moving round the table, bit more bending, some more chalking and then finally when they go to take the shot, I'm willing them to miss it.

I used to enjoy a bit of stick and balls... I once beat the Kenya champion in Nairobi - I didn't know who he was! Got bored when people started taking it seriously, and wanting to challenge you... same with darts in the pub...
I wonder what happened to the cue I last saw hanging up in the snooker club in Gt Windmill Street in the early 60s - we used to go there in the early hours when arriving back in town from some gig somewhere - all show people and taxi drivers!

A yes, we night birds of London in the sixties.
I was a regular 'wholesale customer' (wink, wink,)at Covent Garden. This gave one access to the pubs in the early hours, after finishing work.. No doubt we rubbed shoulders quite a lot Scorps!

I used to like the old Covent Garden - I worked at the Lyceum at one time (or was it two times? Can't remember.) and my route homeward, or at least to wherever I had parked, took me through there - you could get a really decent sausage sandwich from a stall there, I remember... and the pubs, as you say, were welcoming - although what a fruit and veg magnate was doing with a saxophone case I never had to explain. You would see theatre people in there, too - I remember Richard Wattis with a bevy of young men at one table - the voice was unmistakeable.
Back in the Fifties I remember they revived the Soho Fair - that was fun! Waiters' races, jazz bands on lorries - all sorts of silliness. Oh well, I was young...

London was so much fun in those days. I lived in Russell Square and spent most days in Soho. I loved the place with it's hustle and bustle.
