This year,as every year,OH lets me buy Boots Advent calendar. It is full of cosmetics and the value is great. Well, this year it came very early - yesterday,in fact. I tore it open and took all the goodies out of it. I daren't tell my daughters, they think I'm awful for not waiting for December 1st and then taking one item a day. OH doesn't mind, but I suppose it shows a lack of self control on my part.

No, not at all. You would have to be a fanatical superstitious person to see any wrong in that. I don't worry about waiting for twelfth night before taking the tree and decorations down, I usually do that on boxing day.

I saw this Advent calendar on TV with that Roberts bloke who is always on telling us we could save twopence by switching this or that. He claimed that this calendar was a great bargain because of the value of the contents. However, the content looked like samples to me I only ever bought Advent calendars for my children once, they contained chocolate bars and when it came to opening the first door it was empty. The little buggers had emptied all the contents and resealed the doors

Started when we had a real tree and the needles started dropping even though we now have an artificial one we still take it all down on Boxing Day

We’d be lucky to get the tree up and decorated a couple of days before Christmas so we are strictly Twelfth Night people for decorations coming down.

Lucky you, Althea. I have seen the posh advent calendars advertised in magazines but have never had one. They range in price from inexpensive to a small fortune. I am not at all superstitious and when my daughter was very young I would keep the Christmas tree up long after twelfth night. My fairy lights often linger now until the lighter evenings. Opening all your Avent calendar doors, Althea, is funny. I don't blame you - all those little goodies inside!

Polly,I smiled when I read your post about dyeing some trousers. I have got the dyeing bug. Earlier this year,I dyed some Tshirts that I haven't worn much because I wasn't keen on the colours of them. I dyed them all black. They came up a treat. A girl can never have too many black tops. Spurred on by my success,I dyed five more in a claret colour.Needless to say, that is a colour I like and it goes with so many things. Sometimes I root out clothes looking for something else to dye.I haven't really got anything that needs dyeing right now,but I'm hoping to have another go soon.

You've missed Whitby for this year, but there's always 2020...
