We don’t have a garden at the moment but in a few weeks we are moving south and we will have one again. It’s a small empty garden with literally nothing growing in it except grass, but it gets plenty sun and there is a sunny patio too. I’m hoping to have a few small trees and lots of pots, can anyone recommend what trees and bushes I can grow in pots. We’ve only taken over existing gardens but never started from scratch. I’m very excited about it but clueless! 🙂

Remember that pots need lots of watering Depends how far south you are going but some citrus trees will thrive in sunny sheltered positions Good luck, I found with gardening to try it ands see. If it doesn't work chuck it and try something else

I love Hostas and because snails and slugs love them,I plant them in pots.I think a couple of variegated hostas always look good, but they are not evergreens. I would go for small growing shrubs that have foliage of different colours all year round. Then you could have a few plants that only look spectacular in the summer amongst the shrubs. These are a few Hostas in pots.

Thank you both, I too also love hostas and have grown them in the past with bright red geraniums in pots in amongst them. It was a riot of colour.
Im hoping to have a pot with water in for a mini pond as we won’t have one in the garden. Pinterest has some fab ideas but of course are the pictures doctored and will it work in this country. I’m really looking forward to giving it all a go.

If you visit stores such as The Range you will find those water features functioning on display, maybe garden centres will have them working too

I am also a Pinterest fan.I do think some of the posts need taking with a pinch of salt, though I have tried a few that do work. Norty, you are so lucky, the planning of a garden is so exciting and such a lovely time.

And mine. I'd also like the penthouse that goes with it.

And mine. I'd also like the penthouse that goes with it. Trouble with penthouses is that a reliable lift service is essential

My son has grown the most delicious tomatoes and basil , this year. It's so nice to enjoy homegrown fruit and veg. PS I am a useless gardener.

My son has grown the most delicious tomatoes and basil , this year. It's so nice to enjoy homegrown fruit and veg. PS I am a useless gardener. We have a greenhouse and tried growing tomatoes years ago but they all rotted. Experts advised fumigating over winter which we did but by then tomatoes on the vine became available in the supermarket so it hardly seemed worth the bother and we planted grape vines instead which this year have produced bugger all fruit However a neighbour sowed tomato seeds and finished up with lads of plants and gave us four. They have grown magnificently and are now full of fruit which we hope will ripen. I like nothing more than a tomato sandwich, heavily salted

I don’t have a greenhouse just a sunny window sill. This year I grew regular , beef and cherry tomatoes from seed. At one point I had over 50 seedlings. I gave them away to friends but kept about 15 plants and when they were big enough outside they went. Our haul was fabulous and delicious, however in September they got blight, so I picked every tomato and made scrummy green tomato chutney.
I also grew a single courgette plant which much to MrNs annoyance kept producing courgettes. 😁😁

here are some of my parsnips that I’ve grown from seed. I would have left them in the ground and eaten them through the winter but we are up sticks in a couple of weeks and our buyers have annoyed us 🙄
