Just had one of those famous calls informing me I've been in an accident from an internet cafe in the back streets of Delhi somewhere no doubt...
B****y irritating aren't they...

Yes and made illegal now too, but there again most of these irritating calls are from India. So it would be hard to catch them.

True, I'm TPS registered which does help a little, but obviously doesn't stop them from international numbers.

We have a BT phone with a call blocker facility on it. Either we are doing something wrong or it just doesn't work We also have caller display so have learned the scammer numbers and we just don't answer them. There's one who I basically told to "f" off who took delight in calling and then just hanging up

I've actually ended up removing my landline phone now and just use the broadband, most people of any importance call mobile anyway. Result: No more silly calls 😂

We are lucky in that we don't get many nuisance calls. If I don't recognise a number I usually don't pick up,however,if I occasionally pick up one of these calls,I pretend to be deaf. I say,"You want WHO? What did you say? etc. and they quickly hang up. At the old house we were plagued by nuisance calls, despite being registered with the TPS. I once had a call from a man who said he was from Microsoft and there was a problem with my computer. If I gave him remote access he would fix it. Just as if! I knew there was nothing wrong with my two computers ,so I said "Rubbish" very loudly when he started trying to persuade me to let him have access to my PCs. It made me very cross because some people who don't know much about computers, might fall for the scam.In case you think Microsoft will phone you, you have to contact them and it used to be about £22 a minute to talk to them.

I've never fallen for the computer ones, thankfully, the odd times they've tried I've strung them along as long as possible.

There's no central number you can report these callers to Used to get an American sounding woman claiming to be from BT telling me that my internet was about to be cut off. Noting the number I tried to inform BT but they just referred me to Which who then then sent me somewhere else I would ditch the landline in favour of the mobile but need it for fibre broadband and BT TV

I still have a landline ( with EE ) it just doesn't have a handset plugged in, just my router. With no calling plan I only pay £22 a month for 40meg fibre which is fast enough for my needs

Works well for me, Jimmy. The only thing you'll have to watch is going over your mobile minutes allowance, I'm on an unlimited plan with Three for £20 month sim only ( it was £24 but they reduce it when I renew the contract ) I also have a network bar set up so I can't call numbers for which I'll pay an extra charge. It's a little inconvenient at times because I have to look up a local number for 0845/0870 numbers but I find the "no to 0870" website extremely helpful.

I'm on Tesco Pay As You Go and don't have that much usage anyway. So I would just top up when necessary

I'm also on Tesco PAYG.I top it up about 3 or 4 times a year. When I top it up for £10,Tesco give me triple that, but you have to use the free £20 worth in a month.I really only use my mobile to text my sister and my friend. I use the landline for most people because I can talk a lot quicker than I can text.

I had PAYG many years ago but encountered a major problem when I was abroad on holiday, there was a reasonably serious family emergency and after losing my credit on calls I wasn't able to top up as I was out of the UK. Needless to say it cost me $$$ using the hotel phone. I'd rather pay a small amount and be guaranteed service in an emergency even if it means a hefty bill, which thankfully hasn't happened.

When we go abroad I've never had any problems, I'm with EE and I'm amazed that people sound as if they're in the next room. Yet, at home I can go a few miles down the road and they sound like they're on Everest.
