What to buy. It's very difficult for people of our age. If we need something we buy it. My wife's wardrobes are full as are mine. So we are ok for clothes. I've bought my wife an Apple I pad. She likes to play games so I'm hoping she will like that. I'm lost for something else to buy now.

Our lass gets me kegs* and whisky**.
I don't know what I'm going to get her, though she might find something for herself at an antique fair she goes to in Lincs.
*IE, under-kegs.
**IE, not whiskey.

We no longer give presents, stuff we don't need or want. We give the present money to the charity that gave us our rescued dogs

We buy what we want when we want it,which does make gifts difficult for each other. I went through a phase of having jewellery for birthdays and Christmas, then I went through a techie phase. Now I have more than enough of both. I do like perfume and wear it every day,so that's what OH usually gets me,but now he is housebound I have to organise it myself.

You have nothing to open on Xmas morning then Jimmy? Only our dogs Christmas stockings before they tear them to bits. Seems a bit mean and unseasonal but we are used to it We used to send a goat to a family in Africa but Oxfam changed their system and became bogged down in admin so we now just donate to a local charrity

Back in the day only children got presents. Now you have to give one to all your friends, family and co-workers. It's such a con.

Several years ago,I bought a goat for an African village for two of my grandchildren, and paid for a year in school for an African child for my other two grandchildren. My grandchildren have everything they could ever want and I thought they would be pleased to know they had helped the poor in Africa. In one house it was appreciated and in the other house it was not. Ever since then Save The Children have hounded me to donate more. Frankly,it has put me off donating again. I don't like the hard sell and being bullied into donating.. I send money anonymously to the RSPCA.to stop them sending me demanding letters.

With Oxfam now if you donate a gift they insist on sending a card to a contact of yours to tell them what you have done. I argued that I did not want to boast to anyone what I had done, I simply wanted to help someone in Africa They would not have it, that is their system, so I told them that their admin was stopping aid getting to the needy, and now give money to a local charity who are grateful for every penny as it's all volunteers - and helps rehome dogs
