With all the store closures going on will M&S be the next gone? They are already closing shops all over.

Nearly all the high street shops have gone. Who'll be NEXT?

I am surprised that M&S have lasted as long as they have. Overpriced clothes that are no longer good value and food that used to be special but no longer is

I suppose we are all to blame, shopping on line and looking for the best price bargain. We pretty well buy all clothes now from Tesco or Matalan, actually bought some trousers from M&S only because we had a "free" voucher with an insurance policy. Quality just the same as our usual buys Stores that survive will do so by offering matching or better prices and if they can match the on line suppliers and beat the hassle of waiting for deliveries they will win out

I don't think anyone is to blame , more natural progress. BONUS These abandoned shops can all be converted to living accommodation.

M&S are doing well online. I am an M&S customer, both in the shops and online. Mostly,I like their stuff, but have to admit the quality of clothing is not what it was. I used to buy the children's school uniforms from M&S because they would last through all the rough treatment they got. When I get the chance to go to the foodhall,I stock up on food there.

I've been a loyal M&S customer for as long as I can remember, I agree that the clothing is not as good as it used to be. I bought a pair of chinos from there at £65 and after the first wash they had lost their shape and I threw them away. We do love the food though, I go there twice a week to stock up.

There used to be a huge Coop department store in Plymouth that used to do a full scale enormous Christmas dinner, very cheap and very popular. We always had it on our visit to the city to see the Christmas decorations and shops. An escalator used to take you up to the restaurant on the top floor and we would stop off at various level to have a nose around One year they started their January sale early and on the menswear floor I found a black fine wool coat reduced from £200 to £60. very smart Crombie style but all black, so I bought it. It has become my "funeral coat". I would never have paid full price but maybe this is an example of why thee stores are closing

My husband and I were looking round a local mill, that is a large dept. store now. We decided to go for a coffee. As we sat down,a man came round asking if anyone wanted a free dinner he was holding. He had ordered one too many. As you can guess,OH obliged.

Marks & Sparks used to pride themselves on everything they sold was made in the UK as far as possible. A factory near us 'Coras' (sp!) was one of their manufacturers. The quality was always good quality as it was checked before leaving the factory by an M&S buyer. That went by the board when they started buying from all over! It was great when they had a sale at the factory - M&S stuff at a fraction of the price! I still like M&S for some things but have to say the quality isn't the same - the prices are still as high!

There was a documentary about M&S last year pointing out the sweat shops in India that were supplying them. Maybe that's why the quality isn't the same.

There used to be a knicker factory in Wrexham that made knickers for M&S. Long closed. My tutor at college ( mature student doing a fashion diploma) used to be a designer of underwear for M&S. She used to go to Italy to LaSensa and bring back lots of good selling designs and copy them for M&S. I should probably not have revealed that, but it's dog eat dog in the world of underwear.
