Glad to hear it. Other burglars may be deterred.

My only concern now is that the family of the burglar seem like a rum lot and may seek revenge for their 'wonderful, kind etc' family member.

Glad to hear it. Other burglars may be deterred. Or just make sure to find someone who can't fight back.

Would you fight back if someone broke into your home?I'm afraid I would. My husband says let them have whatever they want, they are only things, but I know I would be so incensed I would have a go regardless of the cost.

You know I don't blame this bloke for protecting his property, but maybe with a cricket bat or something similar. But to use a knife with the intent of murder is exactly that.. murder. If it had been me, I certainly would pick up something to bash the burglar with, but no way would I grab a knife intending to cause serious harm. This to me sets a precedent and I can see this case being used in future events.

But, but, but he didn't pick up a knife. The burglar was carrying the screwdriver, in the scuffle the screwdriver was used against him. If I have got this wrong then I apologise but it is how I understand things.

Not sure about it at all, I thought he had used a knife.

Maybe a knife was all he had to hand at the time.I can't blame him for having a go. As I said in my previous post,I know I would. It's in my nature, even though I hate violence and even strong words- I would not be able to resist.

I am still under the impression that it was the 'burglars' weapon of choice!

I am still under the impression that it was the 'burglars' weapon of choice! You are right. It is essential when confronted with such a person that you don't give him a chance to retaliate.
