And supposedly telling Anthony Burgess he only had a year to live, in about 1961; which led him to write 5 novels in the time he had left (as a pension for his wife), including the first Enderby book and A Clockwork Orange.
(This according to Burgess, who also said that Bannister was the first to run the one minute mile; Bannister reckoned he never saw him.)
