I haven't seen a doctor for some years. I ring the surgery and after waiting for almost an hour get through to a triage nurse, explain what my problem is and the next day they text me to say there is a prescription sent to my local chemist.

I expect you are so good at describing your symptoms they don't need to see you. I have a list of phone calls I need to make. Dr, Hairdresser, MOT. If people stop phoning in the early afternoon I may do them all one day soon.

My Doctor used to work 5 days a week, now with the extended hours all our Doctors only work three days a week., madness?

Morning all: Back into the world of the living today, thankfully. There's not been much on the tv over the weekend has there, unless you like snooker.

Are doctors really so much different nowadays? Are they more empathetic, more caring, more altruistic, more dedicated and more self-sacrificing? Not likely, methinks. The GMC's stranglehold on the NHS means that they are almost wholly responsible for the parlous state of medical care in this country and they continue greedily on their way, burying their mistakes with impunity. Doctor? Er.. what's one of those ? Good question. I've never even spoken to my GP on the 'phone, let alone met him in person. I'm 81 with a bunch of quite serious ailments and I might sometimes see a nurse-practitioner, or maybe someone visits to take a blood sample. I've got a home appointment for my Covid booster in ten days time. It'll be between 8am and 4:30pm so I can really plan my day appropriately.

Another gorgeous day so far. Watered my plants after going into town for my morning Latte and a natter.

More new about our M&S Closure.
The council as part of its negotiations to try and keep the store open asked for details of profitability. M&S refused. In a move the council has employed before it then contacted the leaseholder of the business with a request to purchase the lease. This then had to include details of store profit and loss etc. It is making a good profit. However, the council decided that the M&S ship had sailed and they moved quickly to buy the lease of the building. They are also going to list the 1930s shop front and will now approach other supermarket groups to see if one wants to move in. They will offer a grant for refurbishment and as the leaseholder they can negotiate the rent.
This isn't the first time they have employed these tactics. Last year the cinema closed and despite offers of free parking in the council car park and subsidies for vulnerable groups the council couldn't stop the company pulling out as they were on the verge of bankruptcy. They bought the lease on the building and have spent this year negotiating with a new cinema company. Later this year Omniplex will open a newly refurbished cinema with all new seating. It is understood the council as the building leaseholder have given them a six month grace period of rent whilst the refurbishment takes place. Press releases also state that Omniplex (an Irish cinema chain), will offer a £11.99 monthly Cinema pass and customers will be able to see all films available as many times as they wish.
This is the kind of forward thinking and business planning councils should be involved in. You can't just wait for someone else to come along. Our Debenhams is scheduled to be demolished and will be replaced by a large green space that will link onto the green outside the Minster that was at the back of Debenhams. We're also getting a new footbridge across the river for football fans to use - and anyone else obviously. This will take them off the main road and make an avenue leading up to the stadium where many of the old 1970s type small factories and business are being demolished. New housing will be built either side of this facing onto the wide pedestrianised avenue.
Nobody here can say the council doesn't try to do things to make the city better. The planting along the sea front is just wonderful and the refurbished prom is exellent.

I can't fault the NHS over serious health issues. I usually manage minor things myself, so I can't comment on how they deal with those things. I do feel too many people expect the NHS to deal with things like dandruff, or a broken nail. Those two cases are from personal knowledge. Hard to believe, I know. Early on Thursday morning, I am going to hospital for another attempt at an endoscopy. I really hope they will manage it, so we get whatever that's going on, sorted out one way or another. Then I can seriously decide if I am fit enough to get a little dog. I hope so.

Good luck on Thursday Althea, at least you know what to expect now, plus they will be very sympathetic with you.

I guess you're not really looking forward to it, but at least they are forewarned that it'll be tricky, so will take greater care with you. Good luck A

The difficulty of actually seeing a doctor makes you put things off. I have had itching skin for a while now. I went to the pharmacy and bought hydrocortisone cream and antihistamine tablets which have done the trick. However, if I don't use them, the itching is still there. Not sure what to do actually...keep taking the tablets I spose...

You could intersperse the treatment with oat cream. This may settle the itching and nourish the skin between times. But keep on until it's finished and see how it is. After I had a series of falls resulting in bruising, the skin on my legs would start erupting whenever I hurt my legs at all. I had a huge haematoma to start with and had to have compression bandaging to persuade it to heal. I just have to anoint my legs with unguents whenever I have a shower and I just use herbal soaps, which seem kinder somehow.
It's been a more productive day today for various reasons, and I have booked a couple of desperately overdue Doctor's and Hairdresser's appointments for the end of the month. Once our PCC and u3a AGMs are over I can just get on with a slightly slower schedule.
I have had the second of two anonymous parcels today. The first a few weeks ago, contained a book I was hoping to read, and a windchime I felt equivocal about. Today's contained a box of 9 English lavender tealights and a fully sealed box of Ferrero Rocher Chocs, the ads for which are so toe curlingly embarrassing I can't bring myself to buy them, so a gift is a real treat because I love them. According to my cleaners, this is happening to a few other people, and if the chocs were properly sealed they should be safe to eat. I do have the discipline to have them once a day as an after dinner treat. I would have liked to know who sent them. If I was more sensitive I might find it mildly creepy.

I find it creepy. It would really worry me. Mind you I always seem to miss parcels and then spend ages tracking them trying to divert them. I bought two lovely glasses from The Whitby Gin Distillery and a bottle of Prince of Darkness gin and if anyone can work out how to divert a DHL delivery they must have a degree in it.
Good luck Althea, I'm sure they'll have a plan and you'll be fine.

Morning all: Nice to be saving money on heating now. Another glorious day ahead. I have a meeting to go to this morning. I am a company director, sounds good but I'm unpaid.
