I miss bars divided up into compartments - snug, vaults and so on. I miss the sound of conversation instead of broiler music...

I told you some months ago mine got all loud and telly, so I found another. It's a proper pub AND it's Fullers!
Xmas lunch is the full works and I'm told to book early!

Oh yes - the enormous TV tuned to SKY Sports - and the less interest you have in it the more your eyes stray to it... Ghastly!

I like football .Follow Brentford (yes I'm the one) but I don't want it on tv down my local.Which is why I changed. It's a bus trip away but worth it.

I like pubs for the atmosphere, the conversation and the beer. A friend of mine once said that if a new landlord takes over the first thing they do is to redecorate and put new carpet down, but what they should do is leave that alone and serve really good beer, and food, and I think he is right.
I am fortunate that living on the edge of a small town I can walk to quite a few pubs. One in particular still has a public bar, where you can take your dog and watch TV if you want to. The beer is fabulous and the food is pretty good as well. OK, your feet stick to the carpet near the bar, but who cares.
The TV in the main bar only goes on for important rugby matches which are played early in the day. And we all get a free bacon buttie at half time!

When John Illsley retired from playing in my favourite group (Dire Straits) he bought the East End Arms in Hampshire. The locals made him sign a clause he wouldn't do any alterations. www.eastendarms.co.uk/

Normally it's the kiss of death to a pub, the 'refurbishment'. But I must say at my nearest tavern it has been very well done, and they are being very successful with the food there too. (They grow a lot of their own stuff.) www.thegeorgewraysbury.co.uk/

Not sure if you can even still enjoy a 'spliff with your drink even in Holland Arena.
I know that despite the smoking ban you can enjoy a smoke with your drink in most of Greece, large parts of Spain and a fair few places in France. Italy is a bit of a lottery in the cities.
I think their attitude is a little more grown up than ours in the UK. Sign the directives and then it is business as usual.
I thought everyone had died on here it is so quiet.......

It's the nature of a forum ,if lots of people post, there are lots of posts. Passive viewing isn't very productive

I worked my way through to the end of the Cs and I'd counted twenty six. Methinks I practice too much :-)
