Did anyone else have sugar butties as a kid? I also used to enjoy it when my Mum made us a fried onion butty. I haven't had that for donkeys years. My favourite butties are just with chips or with an egg and bacon. There is an annual county show here where a mobile kitchen wagon appears and they do the most amazing egg and bacon butty. One is enough to keep you going all day but you have to learn the technique of eating them to avoid the yolk dripping down your clothes We used to have Fleet Street steak, in the early hours.Chip butties. The only thing the canteens had then!

I was in New York a few years ago with a friend on business. We innocently ordered two 'Lumberjack Sandwiches' which comprised half the US equivalent of a French stick in which was I think a 16oz steak with onions fries ketchup and various other things, I could not face food after that for a couple of days!

We went to a deli in Manhattan once. I wasn't hungry so just had a beer and a liver sausage sandwich , there must have been half a pound of liver-sausage in the sandwich. US food comes in gross amounts.

I never had that but my Mum used to give us the tin to eat from. As I recall it was so very thick and sweet. That's another thing I haven't had in donkeys years. I must get some tomorrow. Doh!!!

We had a collie on the farm and every evening unknown to everyone else I would give him a teaspoon of sweetened condensed milk which he would lick off the spoon.

What's cooking? I'd like the answer to that. I roasted a free range (😒) chicken yesterday... it was tough. Now I have more than half a tough cooked chicken from which to conjure up ambrosia...

I have just baked two very large apple pies. The apples in the orchard are ready now, there will be lots more to do soon, a few pies and crumbles to go in the freezer. I love cooking but hate cleaning up the mess after.
