Over the last few months my knee whilst moving better hasn't lessened in the pain. On holiday recently it flared up badly and I was hobbling about on my walking stick for a couple of days and I was doing cycling movements in the sea. I decided to go back and see the consultant. However, going through the holiday post I got something about a hip and knee talk given by a different chap. I drag poor MrN along, what a revelation! The consultant who took this talk was honest about outcomes, honest about NHS figures and was honest about the treatments, honest about treatment from different doctors. Inspired with him and his different younger approach, I made an appointment.
I saw him today, what a nice man. He took my concerns seriously, explained in detail my MRI scan, told us that a hoover out job would not be the thing and that he'd like to try injections first off. If this didn't work then he would put me down for a knee replacement. He did the injection there and then, no faffing about. I'm seeing him in 3 months to assess.
What a relief to be taken seriously and not fobbed off with yet more physio, you'll have to grin and bare the pain.

Hope all goes well with the injections Norty - the op should be the last resort I think.

Thank you Star, it feels a bit odd today but I'm hoping these injections will do the trick.
It's a toss up about the new knee, surgeons worry about the longevity of the knee due to my age and how long it will last before I need another one. The replacement of an already newish knee isn't unheard of, just that the bone is more arthritic and the leg would potentially be shorter. Having lived with a severish limp for 20 years, that isn't a concern for me. I think that if I could have 10 years on a new knee to allow me to move with more freedom now I would be blissfully happy.

I know where you are coming from. We have a friend who has been putting off going to see about having a new hip - she emailed yesterday to say she has an appointment with her consultant on the 11th! She has really had to bite the bullet as she was in so much pain. Pain free for both of you hopefully!
